Rihanna with Paul and Kanye

Surprise from Paul McCartney

Rihanna surprised her fans on Saturday by debuting her new single “FourFiveSeconds” featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney. The stripped-down track, which was released to iTunes via Roc Nation and Rihanna’s own company Westbury Road Entertainment, features Paul McCartney on guitar and RiRi’s raw vocals.

  1. Not sure why Macca is doing these collaborations. For me, there's very little real Paul creation going on.

  2. To me, Paul is just doing what he has been doing for ages, lending a hand when he is asked to help out, when he has the time to do so. Only now it's no secret and it's newsworthy. As for his guitar playing skills, he is at the top of his game right now. And it keeps Kristofer Engelhardt in business!

  3. Macca doesn't look too well in that photograph.

  4. i dont know who rihanna or kanye is but are they musicians?do they play piano or guitar or anything?i have no respect for people in music who don't even have enough talent to play music.

  5. Well, Elvis could play guitar and piano, he just didn't do it on his records.

  7. It's no coincidence that Clash magazine are re-running an edit of their classic 'Memory Almost Full' era interview with McCartney in which it's put to him that his musicianship is better on others' songs than on his own. Doubting it, he starts to look at it, with 'Something' and 'Come Together' as examples and concludes 'You're probably right'.

I see this as Macca returning to something he used to do a lot of...co-produce and play on others tracks and albums.

If, as it would appear the influence of his Kanye/Rihanna involvement has been to keep production and instrumentation stripped back and let the song shine, then it's already been a great success in shocking/dismaying/delighting fans of all three and introducing new adventures in smashed genres.

All power to all of them!

  8. I think it's a great little track that inspired me to listen to an artist I was not too familiar with (eg, not at all!). As far as the "what is he doing here?" stuff going around, it's no more strange than Mr. Orbison playing with Mr. Dylan on that Wilbury thing all those years ago. It's just music.
