McCartney: Take it Away edit released

Paul is the cover boy, in this 1982 incarnation.
The new "Uncut" magazine is out tomorrow in Britain, and features an exclusive interview with Paul McCartney. They visit Sir Paul at his studio in Sussex where he talks openly about working with and without John Lennon – and discusses extensively the relationship that revolutionised music.

“When I think of John, I think of us writing together,” says McCartney. “‘A Day In The Life‘… stuff like that.”

Uncut has also gotten an audio exclusive, in the form of a 4:05 single edit of the track "Take It Away". The version is available via SoundCloud, but only accessible from the Uncut page. The single edit has previously available on the original vinyl single, as well as on the Wingspan album. It is also featured on a Rolling Stone webpage, and you can even download an mp3 from the download section of Paul McCartney's website (requires that you have registered your email address with the website). This version of the song is not scheduled to appear on the upcoming archival edition of the "Tug of War" album. The edit has been remastered in 2015 for promotional purposes only.

    Unfortunately, this interview - which could focus on TOW and POP behind the scenes - might eventually give us the same quotes on writing with John...
    But it's cool to see a 1982 sort of photo on the cover.

    This is a bit of a swindle on Macca's part as this was remastered for Wingspan in 2001 - so this is not really a "rare" track.
    That said, he has obviously revisited this again recently as the mastering is different to that on Wingspan - a much more balanced mix on the whole with slightly less bass and compression.

    I've just finished reading the Uncut interview, and it's another classic missed opportunity.
    Journalists will tell you that they code Macca's interviews, as there are stock answers for many questions. In this interview he covered:
    12: Writing for George and Ringo
    42: Something is Sinatra's favourite song
    68: I hate Allan Klein
    ...the list goes on.
    This is not down to Paul giving a bad interview, but simply crap journalism on the part of Uncut. Too much emphasis on John's death, The Beatles (in general), and not enough inside info on the recording of the album.
    But then, us fans are never happy!

    Uncut isn't a very good publication. When MOJO did an article for the remasters of 'McCartney' and 'McCartney II' they asked Paul about both albums. The Beatles split was obviously covered when discussing Paul's solo debut, but it didn't eclipse the whole thing. The'McCartney II' was very interesting. I would rather hear about 'Tug Of War' and 'Pipes Of Peace'than have Paul being asked the same old Beatles questions over and over again....
